It’s 2022, technology is booming, and with it, the electric scooter market is reaching an incredibly high rate of production. With hundreds (if not thousands) of electric scooter models on the market, it’s nearly impossible to narrow down the selection to pick the “best”.
You have to consider the fact that not all electric scooters are designed the same or designed for the same purpose, some scooters are built for sport, off-roading, convenience, or hell even for luxury. Luckily, there is one category that we can narrow down to find the best scooter for the everyday rider.
When we say the “everyday scooter rider” we’re referring to average people who use scooters for commuting to work, travelling across school campuses or even those who like to get out for a peaceful ride to get the wind in their hair. Even though there are still a lot of scooters in this market, our experts at T-Dot Wheels have hand-picked the Top 3 Electric Scooters of 2022 for casual riders (after actually hitting the road and testing dozens of scooters ourselves).
#3: THE NINEBOT G30LP KICK-SCOOTER BY SEGWAY
The Segway Ninebot Max G30LP is a newer model of one of the most popular scooters in the world (the Segway Ninebot Max). It’s cheaper, efficiently designed and overall a vast improvement on its predecessor.
This highly durable scooter has dominated the e-scooter market due to its dependability, advanced braking system and overall ease of use. The Ninebot Max G30LP is the perfect starter scooter for anyone new to the electric scooter world or anyone looking for a classic scooter that gets them from point “A” to point “B” without trouble.
The Specs:
- Max Speed - 30km/hr
- Max Range - 40km
- Max Payload - 220lbs
- $1050 CAD Retail Price
The Benefits:
- Classic Quick Folding System
- 2.5W Built-In Front LED Light
- Bluetooth Connectivity (can easily connect to the Segway App)
- Dual Braking System
There’s a nice LED digital dashboard in the middle of the handlebar that displays your current speed in kilometres or miles, chosen speed mode, battery life and whether or not your LED headlight is on and if your e-scooter is connected to the Segway-Ninebot app. This dashboard is straightforward to use. It gives you quick access when you’re riding the Segway Ninebot MAX G30LP, whether you’re simply checking your speed or you need to change modes. There’s just one button on this dashboard, and it functions as the power button and the headlight on/off as well as to quickly switch between Eco (12.6mph max speed), Standard (15.6mph max speed), and Sports (18.6mph max speed) modes.
Although this scooter checks all the right boxes we had to put it to the test before giving it our seal of approval. Our scooter experts spent a day on the city streets of Toronto testing out the Ninebot Max G30LP, pushing it to its limits so that we could determine how well the scooter held up to our tests. By the end of the day, the scooter still had one remaining bar of battery, we were able to manoeuvre through the streets with ease, the dual braking system saved us a few times from jaywalkers, and cruising down Yonge St at top speed felt completely safe (and also gave us one hell of an adrenaline rush).
OVERALL T-DOT WHEELS RATING: 9.0/10
The Kugoo G2 Pro is a true multi-purpose scooter. Thanks to the great suspension and the large off-road tires, it can be used on any type of terrain. While it’s not primarily an off-road scooter, it can tackle pretty much all kinds of rough terrain including dirt, dust, pebbles and rocks, ground, grass, gravel, sand, or anything else you can throw at it.
The scooter is very tough, versatile, of solid quality, and has a well-balanced set of features and specs. Still, the scooter probably leans more towards the advanced end of the spectrum rather than the beginner end.
The Kugoo G2 Pro is built to be tough, extremely versatile and just feels sturdy overall. Based on the specifications of the scooter it does lean more towards the adventurous type, but at the same time, it provides an excellent ride for daily commutes. One of the best features of the scooter is how well it’s made, this is a long-term investment scooter because it’ll likely last a lifetime.
Thankfully the Kugoo G2 Pro doesn’t come at the cost of an arm and a leg (compared to scooters with the same specs & design). Scooters in a similar category to the G2 Pro would run you nearly twice as much as this scooter.
The Specs:
- Max Speed - 40km/hr
- Max Range - 50km
- Motor Power - Max 800W
- $1499 CAD Retail Price
The Benefits:
- Off Road Tires
- Excellent Suspension
- Bluetooth Connectivity
- Wide Platform (8 Inches)
The biggest selling point of the Kugoo G2 Pro is the fact that it has a big range of 50km/31mi. This means the scooter will be a very good commuting companion as well, but also anyone looking for endless fun rides will find this scooter to be great for them.
This scooter is a powerful all-terrain vehicle that has looks that kill, it's pretty powerful and full of features that make it a great ally in anyone’s daily commute or casual ride. For this scooter we decided to reach out to one of our previous customers to get their feedback on the Kugoo G2 Pro after using it for a few weeks, this is what they had to say:
“Owning and riding the Kugoo G2 Pro feels like having a superpower. Just standing on the tall, mighty deck, pressing the throttle, and feeling a jolt of energy as the scooter motor makes a powerful purring sound, is an experience of its own. The scooter has large air-filled tires, excellent suspension, and lots of power, and that is a combination for a smooth and rich ride.” - Alex (Kugoo G2 Pro Owner)

#1: THE INMOTION S1 ELECTRIC SCOOTER
Our goal when constructing this blog was to find the very best scooter for the average rider, and I think we have probably found the best electric scooter on the market— the Inmotion S1. If you’re familiar with T-Dot Wheels, we’re based out of Toronto, Ontario, a booming metropolis, and this means that we get to test our scooters in one of the busiest cities on earth, and yes the Inmotion S1 held up to the test.
The manufacturer Inmotion has been working on the development of urban electric transportation like electric unicycles, E-bikes, and e-scooters for years. The Inmotion S1 is their latest electric scooter product, which made us drop our jaws when we read the specifications.
The Specs:
- Top speed - Up to 30km/hr
- Range - up to 95km
- Payload - up to 308lbs
- $1599 CAD Retail Price
The Benefits:
- Three Riding Modes
- Excellent Range
- App Connectivity
- Stylish Design
Let’s start with its appearance. Compared to most E-scooters, the Inmotion S1 scooter looks simple and integrated without any unnecessary components. The design of this scooter is meant to be stylish as it’s one of the best-looking scooters we’ve had in our store.
The Inmotion S1 has pretty good water and dust resistance. Specifically, the body is rated at IP55; the controller is rated at IPX7, and the battery is rated at IP67. But at the same time, you also have to make sure you keep using the dust plug to cover the charging ports.
The Inmotion S1 is equipped with an excellent brake system, which consists of a front drum and rear electric disc brake. The rear electric brake can kick in automatically without using the brake handlebar if you are going downhill and speed up rapidly, or have exceeded the top speed. The automatic braking feels good most of the time but still requires the rider to get used to it the first few times.
Another great thing about the S1 is the control panel with the large LED display on the handlebars. There’s only one button for all the basic controls, such as one-click for turning the headlights on or off, double click for switching the riding mode, and long-press for the power switch. Even for beginners, it’s easy to use. And the throttle is also intuitive with a thumb push.
One of the greatest designs of the scooter is the road-facing LED light strips on both sides of the deck. They turn blue while riding, and the corresponding strip would automatically flash red when sensing that you are turning to the left or right. That’s right, an electric scooter with turn signals, perfect for the city right?
Overall this scooter will provide the most bang for your buck, it has an extremely high range which is perfect for commuting, food delivery, or even just all-day rides AND it comes at about half the price of scooters with similar specs. But of course, we had to test it before we recommend it! One of our experts rode the Inmotion S1 across North York (Toronto), on the Seneca College campus, through residential streets, spent the entire day on the scooter and this is what they had to say:
“The Inmotion S1 is probably the best scooter I’ve ever been on, although it has a pretty average speed it handles very well and the range is insane. I’ve been on the scooter practically all day and I've barely put a dent in the battery percentage. The scooter manoeuvres very well, the brakes are great, but honestly, it’s the light strips that sold me, I've even had people shout out about how cool it looks.” - Jeremy (T-Dot Wheels Employee)
OVERALL T-DOT WHEELS RATING: 10/10
After testing out these three scooters and many more, we believe that the Segway Ninebot Max G30LP, the Kugoo G2 Pro, and the INMOTION S1 are the best electric scooters of 2022 for the average commuter/rider.
These scooters have an excellent design, long-lasting batteries, and won’t break the bank! Luckily T-Dot Wheels has a financing option for all Scooters, check us out today to see how you could own one of the top-rated scooters of 2022 without a large upfront payment.
